
Adam Russell is an independent dance artist based in the North of England.
He creates atmospheric, other worldly performance experiences for both traditional and non-traditional performance spaces. Communities and local people are often centred in his creations.

Adam was awarded a Space/Time Bursary from Space Six in partnership with The Empty Space, for the research and development phase of Fairground Reminiscence, which is currently open at Gala Gallery in Durham from the 30th November 2019 - 25th January 2020.

In 2017 he was awarded a Lisa Ullmann Traveling Scholarship Grant for Lost in Translation, a cultural dance exchange between communities of Santiago, Chile and Newcastle, England.
Commissions include Looking Outside From the Inside for Edits 2015 at Dance City, Newcastle. Collaboration with Dance Ahead for #HiddenSpaces15, a site specific immersive performance in the hidden spaces underneath Carlisle Citadel Railway Station working with performers aged from the age of 6 to 79 years old and The Glass House 2018. ‘The Glass House, shimmers with style, talent and visual intrigue. Adams highlights as a performer includes dancing for balletLORENT, performing in the critically acclaimed production of Rapunzel as an apprentice continuing as a dancer for the duration of the national tour. Through his work with balletLORENT he worked with a number of young casts in education and participation which influences his work and practice to date. Other highlights includes Darren Pritchard's Body Of Light, a dance and technology solo using the Microsoft Kinect sensor to integrate human movement with computer generated imagery.The work is continuing to tour various dates and venues throughout 2016/17.
His training includes The BRIT School for Performing Arts and technology, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance graduating with a BA (hons) in Dance Theatre and postgraduate training at Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
Adam teaches on a freelance basis, he designs and delivers bespoke workshops for all ages and abilities.
